Henry VIII was heir to the throne as of his father Henry VII. However, Henry was not the original heir to the throne as he was not the oldest. His older brother, Arthur was heir until his death in 1501. There is little of Henry's childhood up until this point when he became heir to the throne.
Henry was just shy of 18 when he became king of England. Henry's reign could be seen as one of the most life changing for the history of England. As many people know Henry has 6 wives; Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boelyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Kathryn Howard and Katherine Parr. Henry went on to have 4 children, one of which to an Elizabeth Blount. They were Mary I, Henry FitzRoy, Elizabeth I and Edward VI. As Henry grew older he became overweight and ill. This was to be his downfall and he died in 1547.
