Elizabeth was born to Henry VIII and Anne Boelyn in 1553. Elizabeth's mother was executed when she was only 3 years old as her father wanted a son and Anne could not give him one. Elizabeth was in line for the throne after her sister, Mary. Elizabeth became Queen in 1558 shortly after Mary's death.
Elizabeth I is probably one of the most famous monarchs that England has ever had, her reign spanned to nearly 50 years. The Tudor family ended with Elizabeth as she, quite interestingly, did not marry so therefore, did not bear any children.

The time Elizabeth spent in the tower is an interesting one. One reason being, was that she was terrified of the tower as that is where her mother's final days were spent. This all happened before she became Queen.
