Edward was Henry VIII's only male heir and was left as heir to the throne according to Henry's will. When Henry died in 1547, Edward was made King. There was trouble around this as Edward was not even 10 when he became King. This made him vulnerable to the people around him and was easily manipulated.
His father, Henry was the creator of the Protestant church as a means to be able to divorce his wives. However, many important people worried that those around Edward would try and convert the monarchy back to Catholicism.
Edward died 6 years after his accession, and was preceded by Mary I.
